My first ryersonian.ca front page

This week I begin my new role as the online managing editor of ryersonian.ca. It’s a three week appointment. And I will relish all the little power it brings. I already changed my twitter profile description.

It now reads:

Student @ru_journalism & online managing editor @theryersonian

And may the shameless self-promotion continue…below is my first home page design. Tell me what you think! It will be up for the weekend, once no new news stories break. But if you excuse me, I have to update my Linkedin profile.

Chasing your dreams…..

My good friend, Karlene Flemming-Fortune is launching a book on Nov 25th at the San Fernando library, Trinidad and Tobago.

It’s a fantastic book, because I penned a very small contribution to it. So go purchase a copy!!!!

Jokes aside. I am extremely proud of all the work that she has undergone to publish her first book.

The book is titled “Chasing Dreams an Anthology.”

But its publisher bests describes it as a collection “of poems, short stories, prose, essays, photographs, artworks, graphic design and illustrations to raise funds for the author, Karlene Flemming-Fortune, to further her studies at Ryerson University in Toronto.”

So if your in Trinidad take a trip down South and attend the book launch. Also get your hands on a copy. Contact thekreativitypress@gmail.com for details

RU hungry?

Thursday is the election. And Ryerson’s Ted Roger’s students will be hosting RU Dunning. Check it out.

Interview with NDP Ontario leader

Yesterday Ontario News Watch got an one-on-one interview with Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath. I was part of the crew, working camera two. Horwath refused to get down and dirty like the other parties about the Liberals proposal to encourage businesses to hire new immigrants to Canada. She also spoke about what it means to be a single parent-parent running a political campaign.

Back to the blog

Hello. Hello.

That was a nice blogging break. But back to it.

Over the next few weeks I will be interning at Ontario News Watch as a camera operator.

I will be covering the 2011 Ontario Provincial Election.

Look out for behind the scence photos, thoughts and, if I have the time, maybe some video too.

Meanwhile, since last we spoke, the Trini blogging and social media verse has been mashin’ up the place this summer.

Yes. Lot’s of Trini’s hit Twitter and Facebook when its national Carrier Caribbean Airlines crash landed in Guyana.

And recently with the state of emergency many are turning to Twitter and Facebook to vent support and even hatred for the policy that has the country on lockdown.

I’ve been paying attention whenever I get the chance.

On a happier note, though, many of my fellow Trini’s posted proudly Kes the Band’s performance on a local New York news show.

T’was pretty cool. Or as we say in Trinidad, “Meh pores RAISE!”

On vacation

Taking a blogging vacation. Back in Sept.
